The Wedding Documentary Company started life as a pitch for a heartwarming, humorous, feelgood documentary series for the newly launched ITV 2 back in 1998. Having made The Real Holiday Show for Channel 4 I was developing new programme ideas and Weddings came up as a subject. It was perfect. A wedding day has everything, tears, joy, laughter, family, friends and a guaranteed happy ending. Amazingly ITV didn't go for it, (they soon jumped onto many other wedding style programmes though!), but the seed had been planted.
A wedding video filmed as a mini, bespoke TV documentary, with a wry sense of humour and one eye on making a film that acted as a time capsule of one very important day in the life of a family, would surely be popular wouldn't it? And so it was. We've made 100's of videos since then, mostly for couples looking for something different, who don't want to be made to walk through a field of corn holding hands as the sun sets behind them.
